ADVISORY COUNCIL
COA relies on the expertise and experience of those who work directly with seniors to help us identify problems related to aging and to work for cooperative solutions to those problems. COA has an Advisory Council composed of distinguished individuals who work with and deeply care about older adults and their families. The Advisory Council meets quarterly to develop a strategic plan for the community with the authority to inform and guide decision-makers in government, provider agencies and families on how to value the assets of older adults and best meet their needs.

The Face of Aging in Davidson County 2030

In September 2007, COA's Advisory Council hosted a summit to bring awareness to the Nashville area business community of the impact the baby boomer's will have on our area. And the summit posed one simple question: Are we ready? Below, an outline of the summit and the call to action. You may also download a copy of the PowerPoint presentation of our panelists (below).

Goal of the Summit
To assist business, government and social service leaders in assessing the impact that baby boomers will have on our community; and to begin a community planning process to address the related issues.

The Need
By 2030 one out of every five people in the nation will be an older adult.  Only 46 percent of American communities have begun to address the needs of the rapidly increasing aging population.  Only a few communities have undertaken a comprehensive assessment to make their communities “elder friendly” or livable communities for all ages.

Call to Action
The Call to Action is an integral part of the Summit.  Your participation is important to the process and will be greatly appreciated.  A web-based survey will be emailed to you within the next week.  Please leave your business card or the information form found in your packet at the registration desk so that you may be included.
