COA is pleased to present this comprehensive book for seniors and their caregivers. Directory of Services for Seniors
A published book titled The Directory of Services for Seniors© is printed every other year and made available FREE of charge to older adults (age 55+) and their families. Hand in Hand
Hand in Hand is a photographic exhibit inspired and presented by the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville. The exhibit, photgraphed by local artists, Rita Maggart and Cathy Holmes, provides a photographic testimonial to the aging community as older adults meet the challenges and joys of life through interaction with family, friends, caregivers, and service providers. It is available for lease and many area businesses have brought Hand in Hand to their offices for special events, employee appreciation days, etc. Learn more...
Scams
Seniors are often the target of many different types of financial exploitation. Recognizing this, the Council on Aging studied many of the more common scams affecting seniors both nationally and in the Middle Tennessee area. Our Community Assessment Committee heard from law enforcement officials, bankers, social workers and others working with seniors to learn what seniors are facing on a daily basis and what steps need to be taken to help them protect themselves. A seminar was held and a brochure developed for seniors and professionals working with them to make them more aware of ways to become alert to scams. Transportation
COA studied transportation needs and concerns of area seniors and, as a result, developed materials to help seniors be more informed of their transportation options. In addition, the Community Assessment Committee worked with Metro Transit Authority to make clear, easier to understand bus route information available for seniors. A grant from The Women’s Fund of The Community Foundation enabled COA to focus on the needs of widows. This resulted in two seminars for widows and a book: Senior Women in Transition, Preparing for and Surviving the Death of a Spouse.
