The Advisory Council (AC) of the Council on Aging presents its second summit. The 2008 event will focus on the impact of aging boomers on business. This event is a must for business owners and human resource professionals.
Why this is important for you and your business: The business implications of aging boomers are multifaceted and significant. Consider these:
One: The cost of lost productivity associated with the dual role of being an employee and a caregiver.
Two: The cost of lost skills and knowledge as boomers retire amid the lack of qualified workers to backfill their positions. A national study estimates the cost of the caregiving impact to businesses is $11.4 to $29 billion annually. These costs include:
- replacement costs when the employee has to leave the workplace
- absenteeism and partial absenteeism (coming in late or leaving early)
- workday interruptions
- crisis in care (time off to arrange care or deal with a hospitalization)
- supervision
- unpaid leave
- transfers from full-time to part-time employment
How the summit will help: The summit will begin with a welcome by Nashville Vice-Mayor Diane Neighbors and a keynote address by E. F. Buster Kenny, MetLife Regional Sales Director of Disability & Long Term Care.
The conference will not only highlight the problem, but will offer strategies and tools for employers of all sizes to adapt for introduction into their organizations. Local companies and professionals will be showcased for their innovative efforts in responding to a trend that AARP estimated impacts 44 million Americans, with 60% working and caring for someone over the age of 50.
